Helsinki Winner 2024 / Classes

Please note! Puppies are judged at the separate puppy shows held on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Junior Class, 9 to under 18 months
  • Intermediate Class, 15 to under 24 months
  • Open Class, 15 months onwards
  • Working Class, 15 months onwards (Working Class Certificate (WCC) required for foreign dogs)
  • Champion Class, 15 months onwards (Championship Certificate required for foreign dogs)
  • Veteran Class, 8 years onwards
  • Breeders Class

Junior Class
9 to under 18 months, compete for CAC, Junior CAC, NORD Junior CAC, NORD CAC and Best of Breed. The best junior male and female awarded with Excellent and CQ compete for Best of Breed Junior.

Intermediate Class
15 to under 24 months, compete for CAC, NORD CAC and Best of Breed.

Open Class
15 months onwards, compete for CAC, NORD CAC and Best of Breed.

Working Class
15 months onwards, compete for CAC, NORD CAC and Best of Breed. When entering Finnish dogs, the result that entitles for entry in Working class must be stated on the entry form. For foreign dogs, a Working Class Certificate (WCC) must be enclosed with the entry form. The dog is automatically transferred to Open class if the WCC is missing or if the result recorded on the WCC is insufficient.

Champion Class
15 months onwards, for International or National Champions. When entering a foreign dog, a Championship Certificate must be enclosed with the entry form. The dog is automatically transferred to Open class if the Championship Certificate is missing. Foreign Champion dogs compete for CAC (unless the dog already is a Finnish Champion), all dogs compete for NORD CAC and Best of Breed.

Veteran Class
8 years onwards, compete for CAC, Veteran CAC, NORD Veteran CAC, NORD CAC, and Best of Breed. The best veteran male and female awarded with Excellent and CQ compete for Best of Breed Veteran.
The Best of Breed Veteran competes for Best in Show Veteran.

Best male/Best female
Dogs which have received the quality grade Excellent and are placed among the top four in Junior, Intermediate, Open, Champion, Working or Veteran class and are awarded with Certificate Quality (CQ) are entitled to participate in this class.

The judge may award a certificate to the best eligible dog that has been awarded with Certificate Quality (CQ), but which has not accumulated the show results required for the Finnish Champion title. A reserve certificate may be awarded to the second-best dog that has been awarded with Certificate Quality (CQ), but which has not accumulated the show results required for the Finnish Champion title.

The Nordic Show Certificate is awarded to the winner of the best male / female class, and the reserve Nordic Show Certificate is awarded to the second-best male and female. All breeds recognized by the NKU can receive the Nordic Show Certificate.

Best of Breed
The Best of Breed is chosen from the best male and the best female. All Best of Breed dogs compete in the group finals.

Breeders Class
Breeders class is a quality grading for groups of four dogs representing the same breed. The dogs must be bred by the same breeder or registered under the same FCI-approved kennel affix. In addition, the dogs must be awarded the quality grade Excellent or Very Good at the current show.

A breeder may only take part with one group per breed.

If the judge considers the group to be of consistently high quality, it can be awarded an Honour Prize. The judge ranks four (4) breeders groups according to order of merit. The best breeders group of the breed awarded with an Honour Prize goes on to compete in the finals.

Quality grades
The quality grades are identified by the following colours:

  • Excellent – red
  • Very Good – blue
  • Good – yellow
  • Sufficient – green
  • Disqualified – grey
  • Cannot be judged – brown
  • Certificate Quality (CQ) – pink

Competition Class
In each class, the judge places the four best dogs that have received the quality grading Excellent or Very Good.

Group finals
The Best of Breed dogs participate in the group finals in accordance with the FCI groups. The four best dogs in each group are placed in order of merit.

Best in Show
All group winners participate in the Best in Show competition. The four best dogs are placed in order of merit.

Best in Show Breeders group
All Best of Breed Breeders groups awarded with an Honour Prize compete for Best in Show Breeders group. The four best groups are placed in order of merit.

Best in Show Veteran
All Best of Breed Veterans compete for the Best in Show Veteran. The four best dogs are placed in order of merit.

Critique
All dogs are given a written critique.
